Autumn Trees

After 6 weeks of rain, today was a very welcome gloriously sunny day. I met H for a walk around the grounds at Felbrigg (good to see the National Trust grounds are remaining open during lockdown). It was extremely wet underfoot and I was very glad that I wore my wellies as there was liquid mud in low lying places in the woods. I've also added an Extra of the lovely blue sky with skeletal trees and a flint wall.

Still no result on the US election which is a lot closer than the pollsters were saying (I wasn't overly surprised given the unpredictability of a high turnout and conditions that felt a lot like Brexit). So sad that today the US withdrew from the Paris Climate Accord - I preferred it when America led the way!

Day 234 / Day 22 of The 3 Tiers (for my record only)
UK deaths up 492 to 47,742 (revised basis), with 25,177 new cases, 12,320 patients in hospital and 1,142 in ventilator beds (the Govt summary no longer works on my iPad!). Globally cases to date pass 48m, up 1m in 2 days. MPs approved the new lockdown in England which starts tomorrow (DUP MPs voted on this England only lockdown, but SNP MPs did not take part - it still annoys me that MPs from devolved Nations can vote on England only matters). NHS England moves to its highest alert level following a rise in ICU patients and there are now '22 hospitals' worth of Covid patients in English hospitals with 11,000 'severely sick'. Govt guidance on the clinically vulnerable and clinically extremely vulnerable has now been updated - for the clinically vulnerable it now refers to those over 60 or clinically vulnerable with that definition including over 70s - someone changed their mind since Saturday! John Lewis cuts another 1,500 head office jobs. Lloyds banking group is cutting a nett 730 back office jobs. M&S announced its first loss in its 94 year history. The first arrests have been made over alleged fraud in Govt support packages - about time! There are some hopes of one or two vaccines being available to start being used by Xmas.
