No sun - no moon!
No morn - no noon -
No dawn - no dusk - no proper time of day.
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member -
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! -
November!

by Thomas Hood (1799- 1845)
In many ways the poem illustrated today when there was no sun and it was fairly dark at noon.    But I did find some yellow corn marigolds which brightened the foggy scene and heard several unseen flocks of geese fly overhead possibly to graze in one of the fields which are normally visible from that gate.  With its extensive views it’s a local walk that I frequently do so it was strange not to see recognisable things like gates until they were within a few metres.
