Strange Sights on Northern Öland

This is a strange time to be sightseeing. Partly because it's November, and therefore raw and cold, and partly because Covid isolation has just been announced, the day after we arrived! All theatres, museums, art galleries etc have just closed. Fortunately we are creatures of the outside world so with a little adjustment we can carry on with our trip, in our bubble of three.
There are some fairly strange landscapes here, open, flat, desolate, and pale in colour, as is the sky also today.  They make me think of some early episodes of Doctor Who, filmed in limestone quarries in S. Wales.
Here we are on the west coast of Öland looking at a "scouring mill". Basically you laid a series of flat stones in a ring, and two harder stones were pulled around the ring, scouring the target stones to make them flatter and smoother. In the extra you can see both the mill and an oxen driven scouring ring, showing the technique more clearly.
HarlingDarling has a more detailed account of the day which included a delicious lunch and a trip to a lighthouse.
