A day in the life

Ruminating

My island hasn't shown its sunny side, what its famously known for, during the time my visitors have stayed here. Only short glimpses of sun and occasional patches of blue during mild but otherwise grey, misty days. We have done our best to make good use of our time though, at the same time as we've stayed out of groups of people, we've had great walks both inland and along the beaches.

Today we went to Beijers hamn, 'Beijers harbour' one of the areas known to bird lovers (most of Öland is) to see a harbouring project starting in 1850. The project went horribly wrong since the harbour very soon filled up with debris, sediment and mud, in the end making it impossible to use as a harbour but instead it became a heaven for wading birds of all kinds.

The lowland also makes perfect grazing ground for cows who helps to keep the landscape open. The cows are extremely used to people and don't bother about humans passing very close, possibly thinking deep thoughts while ruminating.
