a lifetime burning

A gap in the rain

We knew it was going to be a wet morning so we had planned a video call with Cathy's brother Steve and his wife Anne.  It was all very jolly and made us realise just how much we miss being able to socialise with the wider family.  If we ever get out of this hole and are able to socialise again, some large scale family get togethers definitely need to be on the cards.

It eventually stopped raining and we went out for a work earlier this afternoon.  The light wasn't great for photography but I took this shot of the weir at Saltford while we were out and about.

The tower building on the riverbank is the old brass mill at Kelston.  I used to think that it was quite quaint that the locals were using water power to make brass goods.  Unfortunately I subsequently learned that the brass goods were then sent down river to Bristol and from there to Africa where they were part of the great evil that was the triangular slave trade.  So yes, the local brass industry was supporting and being supported by the slave trade.  Once you realise this, strangely the building looses some of its attraction.
