Thankful & Grateful

We’re celebrating the Thanksgiving Holiday today with full hearts, and soon to be full tummies. Because I’ve spent so much time in the kitchen today, I wanted to share one of my views • This holiday brings us great satisfaction for the compassionate food on our table. Much of it we’ve grown. We’re fortunate we are retired so that we have the time to grow so many of the vegetables we enjoy eating • We’re also mindful that this National Holiday is not just about what we were taught in school. Our history needs to be one of truth, acknowledging the Native Americans who were killed and removed from their land; indigenous people who are still marginalized today. Ours was not a fairytale beginning • We choose to combine this Day of Mourning with Thanksgiving; a coming together to heal and begin anew. It’s true of our great country too as we head in to January with a new President who acknowledges our systemic racism and pledges to address it • We are thankful and grateful this day.
