Wound up in Wexford

Holt Country Park

We decided to have a drive out and a walk.  Having studied an article in the local paper with some suggested places for winter walks, W opted for Foxley Woods.  Oops - we arrived there to find it locked - and at that stage I checked the website to discover that it is closed every Thursday for "management".  I suggested we try Holt Country Park instead, as we were already well north of Norwich.  I had frequently seen the signs, and I think maybe made a brief visit in the past, but had not realised quite how large it was.

We arrived to find the car park almost full, but once we set off walking, we rapidly got away from the crowds.  We were supposedly following the purple trail (but backwards, as we were a little disorientated in the car park), but we clearly went "off piste" at one point, and ended up having to retrace our steps as we came to a very boggy area.  But it was a lovely walk, on a pleasant autumn day.  And we rewarded ourselves at the end with drinks and sandwich from the little cafe, which we were able to enjoy sitting out in the dwindling sun.

We will head back there again in the future.

It was also good for our souls, and made us realise we have not been making enough effort to get out and about recently - it has been too easy to just occupy ourselves on home territory.  We have promised ourselves a trip out for a walk somewhere once a week from now on.
