Quod oculus meus videt

The Cemetery Entrance

A very long working day, which started before 7 am and didn't finish until after 8 pm.  I am currently the Grinch of the Council, reviewing events around Christmas to make sure they can be Covid compliant.  The morning was taken up with a Christmas concert that we have been made aware is happening early next week.  We are trying to get the organisers to provide information on their plans and measures to protect the audience and performers from possible Covid transmission during the event - it is like getting blood out of a stone.

Then this afternoon and this evening joint visits with the local Police to a home owner who has created a veritable winter wonderland of Christmas lights in his front garden.  Nothing wrong with that I hear you say, that is until half the neighbourhood rocks up on a Saturday night to visit and view the spectacle, causing grid lock on village roads and resulting in masses of complaints from disgruntled residents.  To give the owner his due, he was equally horrified by the number of cars and people that turned up on his doorstep.

This comes down to the power of social media, with people coming from 30+ miles away to see his house.  The Police were cast in the role of the villains in this situation when they came knocking on the night, and I was cast in the role of trying to find a solution to prevent something similar happening again.  In the meantime the Police have been trolled on social media for spoiling the 'innocent' fun.

I just had time for a walk around the estate in the fog, enjoying this view of the roundabout in the entrance to the local cemetery, with its lovely trees.
