Happy Birthday

Another wet and grey day.  BB’s rugby wasn’t cancelled today – so TT dropped him off.  He then headed off to the bakery and came home with the usual bread, croissants and bagels and some more of the delicious mince pies.
A it is TT’s birthday, my first job of the day was to make him a birthday cake, a Bakewell cake as requested.  I was bracing myself for the muddiness on BB’s retuned, but it seemed no worse than in recent weeks.  He was made to strip to his shorts at the door.  Once he was showered, it did take quite some time to clean the mud from the bathroom.
TT enjoyed opening his birthday presents – beer, chocolate, the makings of a curry, socks, gloves, a new hat  and a good book. What more could a man ask for?  In his case – probably whisky!
A friend appeared at the door delivering Christmas cards.  We had a socially distant chat, but it was raining so she didn’t linger.  After lunch BB and I headed out in the gloom for a walk.  The rain wasn’t heavy and did eventually go off, with a the merest hint of brightness in the sky.  We chose a mud free route and then walked into town to get  a get well card for a friend who has unexpectedly ended up in hospital after a wee accident, and some shopping as TT decided he would make tea.  I suggested we get a takeaway for his birthday tea, but he wanted to cook.  He made a great spread and even made his own samosas, which were very tasty.
I was urging BB to choose a movie to watch.  He told me to choose, but then didn’t want to watch any of my suggestions.  He eventually chose Toy Story 1 (which I had already suggested), as it was a Christmas movie.  Not quite a Christmas movie, but it does end at Christmas!  We had  TT’s cake and candles in the middle of it, and the whisky bottle appeared.  TT then wanted to watch a movie and chose Casino Royale – the 1967 version.  I soon got fed up of it, though it has a very interesting cast.
Under normal circumstances we would have spent this weekend with TT’s sister and family in Newcastle for a pre-Christmas get together.  Just another thing we are missing out on this year.
Here’s the cake, candles and whisky.
