Wildlife wonderwall

This intriguing wall of odds and ends is to encourage wildlife to settle in Dulwich Upper Wood. It’s beautifully done and it’s an enlightening way to deal with unwanted stuff that might pile up in the garden.

Visiting the wood wasn’t on the itinerary but Fred remembered it was nearby and we took a look. It’s been many a year since we were last here and the conservation volunteers have maintained the site well. I liked reading about the old houses that used to be there and walking into the remnants of basements that have been reclaimed by the wood.

It must have been quite something to have had the Crystal Palace looming above the wood from 1852-1936. One information panel told of rivers of glass when the building burnt down. Yikes.

That was today’s exercise, along with a side trip to pick up a Turkish mezze box cooked up by a neighbour Vine.London. Nom.

Rory’s box of presents has arrived at last. It was meant to be next day, but I’ll take five days as long as it reached him before Christmas. We had fun watching him take out each present and squeeze it. He may have guessed at least one of them during the shake test.

We’re going to watch the National Theatre panto together tomorrow when the YouTube stream goes live. Rory and I normally see the panto at Eden Court so this is some consolation. There won’t be the usual Invernesian jokes to groan at and perhaps this time I won’t almost catch the “Fiiiiive looo rolls” like last year during the “12 Days of Christmas”. Similarly, maybe Fred can surprise me with a blast from a water pistol during one of the other songs.
