Clattern Bridge

I have been visiting Kingston upon Thames for almost thirty years and I'ver never noticed Clattern Bridge before. A Boxing Day walk to a much quieter-than-usual Kingston town centre probably meant some things were just more noticeable.

Historians can, apparently, date the structure back to 1175, making it one of the oldest bridges in England. From one side it's almost unnoticeable as the road crosses the little river that wanders down to the Thames. But from this view the three arches are quite visible. This was also the site of a cucking/ducking stool which was once used to punish disorderly women. It's gone but might have been useful for those two men fishing just out of sight, near the 'no fishing' sign.
