Sweet and savory

Earlier in the month I mentioned the merging of family traditions as little pieces of different Christmas rituals come together in households across the country. Here's another one: Christmas cake and cheese. 

I grew up in Lancashire and I'm quite certain that this was not a tradition familiar to my family, even though pairing cheese with cake is often thought of as a Northern thing. But PY's family originate from Yorkshire and this is most certainly part of their tradition. A quick bit of research online points to it being a Yorkshire transition from the Victorian era. It's also delicious.
