Waterwheel

In years gone by, as the River Wandle meandered through south London, water was used as a source of power for local businesses. Merton Abbey Mills was one such site. At some point in the area's history, Liberty's department store, sourced some of their fabrics from here. In the time I've lived in London it's gone through a few phases: there used to be a huge craft market here at weekends but that's shrunk considerably and has been replaced by lots of great little food places. There are also a couple of pubs which, on a bank holiday, had managed to find a way to serve takeaway beers to those wanting to escape the house. I didn't want a beer but I did want a noritaco (according to the internet it's a crispy seaweed tempura shell with sushi rice and Japanese Latin fusion fillings). Sadly, Sugoi JPN's little shop was closed so we walked home. Most striking about today was how cold it felt the compared to recent days. There's windchill in the air.
