Fieldfare

Today I had a gentle walk along the Green Lane at Etton, and then back along the Maxey Cut, with a short detour into Etton-Maxey reserve. It was wonderful to be out in the frosty landscape although the sun never quite broke through the high cloud. The large flock of fieldfares and redwings was still feeding in the hawthorn bushes along the Etton Road, while a sizeable charm of goldfinches were feeding on teasels along the Green Lane. I stopped for a while to listed to a Cetti's Warbler in Vergette Wood, but it stayed stubbornly out of sight - as they nearly always do! I also found flowering Blackthorn along the Green Lane along with some Hazel catkins - it'll be spring before we know it...
