We normally celebrate the start of a new year with a glass or two of sparkling wine.  This year, rather than celebrating the new year, we are celebrating the end of the old year - one which we will not forget.

Then of course, 11pm tonight also marks the end of the transition period after the UK left the European Union.  So to mark this, we went without our usual French champagne and instead opened a bottle of English sparkling wine, from Camel Valley in Cornwall.  And very good it was too.

I won't miss 2020, and I am sad that we have divorced ourselves from our nearest neighbours.  However, I look forward to gradual improvements in the New Year as the vaccines start to roll out in greater numbers and we establish our new trading relationships with the rest of the world.

Wishing you all a Happy and safe 2021.
