New Year's Day walk

Richard and I went out after breakfast for a walk, this time along the upper part of the Rivelin Valley trail. Rain's forecast for later, so we wanted to get out while it was still dry(ish). The Rivelin Valley is a bit of a frost pocket, and there were still plenty of slippery surfaces and snowy patterns in the grass and on tree trunks. Just before Christmas two friends of ours had a near-miss car accident along there, skidding on black ice and hitting a tree (they were shaken, but OK; hopefully the tree was too).
I was browsing on Instagram earlier, where I always enjoy Pete Souza's photographs. He was Barack Obama's in-house photographer and throughout the Trump years, he has consistently posted visual reminders that Trump et al were not normal, were not OK in any way and (let's hope) are not forever.  Look him up, if he's not familiar to you - he has a wonderfully intimate and insightful style.
Over the Christmas holiday, PS has been posting some personal stuff, including a short sequence taken of a particular tree at different times and seasons during the Covid period. I take a lot of tree photos, as well as looking at plenty done by others, and this is not an uncommon project. But each project can be different and lovely in its own way.
So here's a beautiful tree for New Year's Day, perhaps the start of a sequence of its own.
