New Year's Day

Last night we had a lovely dinner at home, it all worked out fine, the food was delicious - we had music playing and we all sang along to 'our' traditional NY song which is...wait for it...Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond. You may think that is so random to have that song as our NY song but for the past 15 years we have spent New Years Eve at the same restaurant in Switzerland and every year they get a one-man-band to entertain the diners. As most of the diners are German he usually plays many traditional German songs but then for the English customers he always plays Sweet Caroline and of course the English all sing along with much enthusiasm. So while we were not in Switzerland this year we still had to sing along to our song!

The boys saw in the NY outside sitting around the firepit, but it was so freezing cold that I stayed indoors and was happy to rather tidy up. We went to bed shortly after seeing in the new year.

Today was again very cold - but disappointingly no frost and no snow. It actually did snow a little later, big fat flakes that melted as soon as they hit the ground so the initial excitement soon faded.

We had a cold walk in the woods with Xena - most people forget about social distancing so you have to make a point of stepping aside to remind them to give you space, and most people walking were in large groups of three generations - when the Covid rules are that you may walk outside with ONE other person who is not from your household and clearly some groups were from multi households. Bloody hell why don't people get it? Then you get home and see the news that hospitals are in for a few very challenging weeks as the cases rise and they cannot cope, so it is no wonder the cases are not coming down.

For lunch, as I had left over salmon from last night's dinner (I ordered a large amount as we were expecting all the girlfriends to be here with us to celebrate new year) I made a salmon pasta dish.

No photos outside today as it was so grey and bleak and nothing photographable caught my eye - instead I wanted to try out my new background that I got for Christmas and so Tommy was coerced a willing subject!
