Carnegie libraries

L3 Day 17 Today I returned some library books as not sure if the libraries will continue to be open. Since the start of Tier 4 they have operated a click and collect with one person able to go to the door to return books or pick up books that have been ordered online. The libraries in both Teddington and Twickenham were financed by the Scottish- American philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. A total of 2,509 libraries were built between 1883 and 1929...660 in the U.K. The Teddington library was opened in 1906 and the Twickenham one in 1907. Inside Teddington Library there is a plaque to R.D.Blackmore and a bust of Noel Coward, both local residents. Each side of the main doors of Twickenham library there are busts of locals Alexander Pope and Alfred Tennyson.
