Epiphany

“Epiphany... falls on January 6 and marks the official end to the festive season for many Christians... In the West, Christians began celebrating the Epiphany in the 4th century, associating it with the visit of the Wise Men to Jesus... During the medieval period, Christmas was celebrated for the 12 days from Christmas Eve on December 24, until the Epiphany. Even up until the 19th century, January 6 was as big a celebration as Christmas Day...” The Telegraph

My Epiphany blip is an advent calendar I unearthed in the attic, probably as old as me, from the days when advent calendars didn’t involve chocolate!

A long busy day taking down the decorations from around the house (one of the drawbacks of living in Santa’s grotto), before raising a final Christmas toast with the Champagne and party food left over from New Year’s Eve when we were all so tired we went to bed early. The Christmas tree won’t be switched off for the final time until bedtime, and I have left a few “Winter” lights up to see us through the darkness of a winter lockdown.

Following a tradition set by my Mexican Sister-in-law, there are a few little daft presents waiting to be opened under the tree on Three Kings’ Day, including a tin of rice pudding! In Spain and Latin America 6th January is the day when Christmas gifts are given, marking the day when the magi brought gifts to baby Jesus.

Take care, stay safe and well...

(Thank you for all the love for my Twelfth Day of Christmas blip, I hope you sang along for one last time!)
