Meet me at the fountain (2)

While waiting to meet Youngest Son (who needed new school shoes), I thought I would blip the fountain in Dumfries High Street. It's a meeting point for young and old, looks like a giant cake stand and is a Grade B listed iron structure.

In 1851, water was piped into Dumfries for the first time, from Lochrutton, and a fountain installed to commemorate this. The present fountain replaced the first one in 1882. It spouts water in the summer months from the mouths of the crocodiles (why crocodiles? No one seems to know, nor who chose the garish red and gold colour scheme.
