Sunset over Rodborough Common, above Butterow.jpg

This hilltop is called Rodborough Common and forms the ridge between where the River Frome's Golden Valley is joined by the Nailsworth valley on the edge of Stroud's town centre. On the hilltop is the site of an Iron age camp while in the Nailsworth valley on the far side is the site of Woodchester Roman Villa, thought to be one of the most important Roman sites in the south of England, with a very fine mosaic depicting Orpheus, now reburied.

I like the silhouetted trees with the scudding clouds lit up by the setting sun. If I look out to the right from my study window, this is my view about half a mile distant. The houses are part of the hamlet of Butterow.
