The Big Red Star

We have been awakening to summer for the last few days. Like everything else in our lives right now...pandemic, election, insurrection, climate change... it is hard to comprehend. It has been difficult to imagine how our property will be impacted by the loss of the shade from all the trees that have been taken down as well as the arbor that attached to the pump house and almost burned the house down when it burned. All that changed when the mercury hit 75 degrees today. I'm sure we'll soon be seeing pictures of dry cracked lake beds and stories of drought. Perhaps a picture of Dana watering rocks garden with a hose wasn't the best choice....

The next thing undertaken will definitely have to be some sort of shade structure.  I'm thinking of some sort of free-standing metal structure over the table. When I wasn't trying to pry a well-rooted but lifeless plant out of a round pot today, I was wandering around squinting at the sky, checking the angle of the sun, looking for the best place to put a new arbor and trying to imagine what it will look like.

Two more days before we see the back of Donald Trump. I suspect we have already seen the back of him as he lurks somewhere in the basement of the white House. It wouldn't surprise me if he sneaks out under cover of darkness, avoiding the thousands of troops massing around the capitol in case of trouble on Inauguration Day. He apparently plans to live at his estate in Florida, trying to avoid the closing legal net in New York. I don't know where his odious children will go or what they will get up to. It seems a clear indication of how much he used his social media presence to whip up his followers, as right wing 'chatter' on social media has dropped by 73% since he was barred from facebook and twitter.

But if I've learned one thing from that awful man, it's that it's not over until it's over....Will I ever stop waiting for the other shoe to drop?
