Life through the lens...

Seafood delight.

Hand picked mussels from Morecambe Bay.
Beautiful bright shining shells.

In these very difficult times it is great to find a new shop opening.
Thanks to our daughter-in-law for letting us know about “ The Hook”. A fishmonger who opened 3 weeks ago in the next village.
We had to queue as the shop is very small, but has a counter/fridge displaying a wonderful selection of fish.
Would have loved to have a chat with the owner, and spend more time discussing the different types of fish, but it was a quick in and out as the queue outside was getting longer.
So bought a kilo of mussels and a large piece of cod.
Tonight’s meal will be Moules Mariniere with cream, garlic and parsley.
Followed by fish curry.
All ready a nice bottle of white Macon Village chilling in the fridge. Mustn’t let it get too cold though.

Found this poem by Elizabeth Garrett in a Rick Stein book, along with his recipe.

“ I pour the wine: it seems they beg for more. The beaked shells yearning wide as if in song - yet dumb - and lewdly lolling parrot- tongues.
Cream licks the back of the spoon and drawls a slur of unctuous benediction for this feast .
We smooth our cassocks ; bow our heads: and eat.”

Always best eaten with the fingers, using the shells as a utensil.
