No little grandchild today; it’ll be tomorrow. So the main event of the day was my usual walk but instead of heading along to the path at the Dreadnought I detoured to Asda instead. Pinhead oatmeal had to be found. Failing that, porridge oats. The latter it was. For it is indeed Burns Night. Perhaps they’ll be having proper Burns Suppers in New Zealand and Australia though I see that the travel bubble between the two has been suspended for 72 hours by the discovery of one case of Covid in NZ. One! I think Europe’s, well, on another continent, if not planet. Talking of Europe, there are riots across the Netherlands due to tougher curfews and threats from the EU to the UK’s supply of vaccines as AstraZeneca have suddenly announced they’re going to have to cut their supplies to the EU by 60% in the first quarter. Oh joy.
Still, we duly had our Burns Supper - a bit of Jean Redpath on the decks, and a most inventive main with Galloway smoked haggis followed by a terrific Cranachan. And then the final two episodes of Tin Star Season Three which is a terrific load of old cods driven along by Tim Roth. Actually, quite entertaining.
