Accident and Emergency

Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans.

So I woke up this morning, with my leg injury having steadily worsened to find that I was in so much pain I couldn't actually work the brake and accelerator in the car...leaving me stuck in Liverpool. Luckily James very nicely drove me to the station and I got picked up by my mum at Southport station (after having to get a rail replacement bus due to the trains stopping due to a suicide on the tracks...today of all days!). My leg had got to the point where walking on it was painful, so to say I was limping now was a bit of an understatement (couldn't actually put much weight on it at all)! Really upset as I had planned to see my Grandma Peggy and go out for lunch with her, and I haven't seen her for absolutely ages and was more than looking forward to see her...hopefully I can see her before I go back to France.

Showing the niceness of people from the North, every time I started to walk I had another person asking if I needed any help, lovely, but unless they could give me a piggy back it would have been pretty useless! Still nearly burst into tears every time it happened.

Cue quite a relatively small wait (hour and a half) in the Accident and Emergency department of Southport and Formby General Hospital.
Diagnosis: deep muscle damage, no fractures or risk of DVT
Staff seen: triage nurse, specialist nurse, doctor, DVT nurse
Action: very strong painkillers, anti-inflammatories, orders to rest the leg (but not crutches offered as apparently they don't give them out anymore as it encourages people not to use to leg...no comment!) and wait for it to heal. Might be tricky when I'm travelling back to France on Saturday!

Thankfully my parents came up with a plan to get my car back in the easiest way, so Mum and I headed to pick up Dad from work (about a fifteen minute drive from Luke's house), picked up my car and then headed back home. Really upset that I had to cancel seeing Brad and Hannah this evening...but since I am effectively housebound so I can have a well enough leg to trek across Paris on Saturday, I don't really have a choice!

I can only apologise for the sub-standardness of today's Blip...I just don't have the energy/mobility to take anything more interesting today. So, this photograph I have entitled 'View from a speeding train window'.
