Blue lights

Suddenly, sitting by the fire this evening and midway through a film, MrM and I both smelled smoke. A strong smell, just in our living room, nowhere else in the flat. Hopefully not our chimney, and unlikely as it smelled more like coal smoke than wood smoke, but I went outside to check anyway. It looked OK. Then a neighbour stopped her car to tell me that she had just called the fire brigade as black smoke was pouring from the local pub, a way away down the High Street. When the film was over I went out to see what was happening; a fire engine and two vans had arrived, but didn't stay  long, so most likely a chimney fire.

Other than that excitement, just another Saturday in lockdown, and the fifth consecutive day of rain. Lots of flooding in the area now, and apparently two of the three main roads out of Wooler are blocked by floodwater this evening. Feeling slightly under the weather today, so I decided not to join MrM on his late afternoon walk from the Common to Common Burn Bridge - 5 muddy miles in the gloom through rain and sleet really didn't appeal! Managed 15km on the exercise bike instead, and caught up with a couple of chores.
