A New Blipper?

I went for a town walk this morning, it was very windy and cold, but no snow yet, I expect to see some by the morning though. I walk down Grove Lane which has little traffic so you can walk in the road, and lots of interesting and different houses, plus the new development at the end. This Banksy stencil is on the wall of one of the bungalows. When I walked past the new development, some movement caught my eye. A woman was walking towards me about 50m away and her whippet was off the lead and tearing towards me......except as it got closer I realised it was a terrified muntjac deer.

Day 328 / Day 33 of Lockdown 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 373 to 112,465 (revised basis), with 18,262 new cases, 29,326 patients in hospital, 3,505 on ventilation and 2,332 new admissions. c12m have now received their first dose of the vaccine. The WHO's special envoy on Covid said that the UK has been 'vindicated' over its 'brave' decision to offer vaccine doses up to 3 months apart. Not such good news today as the AZ vaccine has been found to be less effective against the South African variant, offering only limited protection against mild disease. However, results are limited as this was a small study, did not include older people, did not assess T cell response, is not peer reviewed, but it is thought it can protect against more severe disease. I'm quite impressed at the Govt's plans to 'futureproof' vaccinations using our expertise in genomic sequencing and our pro-active relationships and contracts with manufacturers. Concern is on-going about the low uptake of vaccinations in the BAME community, with the Vaccines Minister saying 'if one particular community remains unvaccinated, then the virus will seek them out and it will go through that community like wildfire....'  It was interesting listening to Professor Sarah Gilbert who's team developed the Oxford vaccine. She said evidence for its effectiveness in older people was limited as fewer were in the UK trial and fewer in the control group for that age got ill as they limited social contact, but a trial nearing completion in the US should provide more data. This is something I'd wondered about generally on vaccine trial data as the volunteers would have been under some Covid restrictions. Rapid tests are to be offered to workplaces with more than 50 employees.
