Life through the lens...

Tremenheere

A collage today, of photos taken at Tremenheere Gardens Nr Penzance.

Although it was a bit brighter, with a hazy sun at times, it wasn't good for taking photos.
One of the reasons we visited here was the view over to St Michaels Mount.
As we walked up the wooded hillside the view of the Mount gradually appeared, through the trees.
Not a good photo, but one I had to include. (Camera facing the sun, which makes everything look dark)

Michael De Tremenheere bought this land from the monks of St Michaels' Mount in 1290, and thus began an unbroken lineage of 600 years.
This persisted until 1890 with the last Tremenheere being Seymour Tremenheere, and it was he who planted the beech, oak, sweet chestnut and holly throughout the woods in about 1830.
After the Tremenheeres the Pearce family farmed the land for 4 generations, until Dr Neil Armstrong bought the land in 1997 and began to clear the overgrown undergrowth.
He has planted many tree ferns , created pools, and landscaped the steep hillside, using many exotic cacti, grasses and other shrubs and flowers.

This garden is very different from the ones we have visited so far. No huge flowering magnolias, or camelias. It has great charm, and a wildness about the woodland walks. A garden for Summer more than Spring I think. But even at this time of year we enjoyed our walk round, and the views were wonderful.

Time now to prepare tonights meal.
We called in at Newlyn, and bought the freshest Pollock, just landed this morning.
Trying a new recipe, "Pollock Curry". A recipe Lynda Bellingham cooked on her programme My Tasty Travels when she visited Cornwall last year.
It includes, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, turmeric, garlic, fresh ginger, madras powder, fresh chili, fresh corriander, fresh lime juice, tin of tomatoes, sliced onions
and garlic.
(good job Sainsburys had everything!)
Served with basmati rice, and a nice bottle of white wine chilling in the fridge.
(not that it needs it!!)
