Rare survivor.

The native Maidenhair Fern, Adiantum capillus-veneris is a rare plant of sheltered limestone cliffs near the sea. It is found on the western side of England. In the north west there are just five places where it can be found and one of these is Arnside.
Although rare it is tough as it can survive both these icy conditions and being drenched by salt spray in stormy weather.

The ice is inevitable as one of its demands is to have water trickling down the cliff face where it grows.

It is one of plants which Mrs. K. has been helping to propagate as part of a plan to start a number of new colonies.
