More winter fungi.

This one is King Alfred’s Cakes.  Daldinia concentrica

You will remember that the King burnt the cakes he tried to make. It is most commonly found on Ash trees. This youngish example is still brown but will soon turn black.

Another beautiful morning with wall to wall blue skies. On our short car ride to thestart of the walk the thermometer said it was -5C. But in the sun and with no wind it felt much warmer than that.
