Schlumbergera

I had hoped for a romantic Valentine’s Day - not that we usually make much of it, G viewing it as over-commercialised rubbish. It could, however, made a good excuse for a Buck’s Fizz breakfast, and the treat of flowers and chocolates. In reality, none of this materialises, though there will be a ‘romantic’ meal tonight.

G managed to cope with two rugby games yesterday before taking himself off to bed suffering from what we presume to be  post-vaccine symptoms. I’m fine but for a slightly sore arm - clearly made of tougher stuff. Suffice to say, despite his overnight recovery, Sunday is proving to be a pretty lazy day - and the arrival of the forecast rain makes moving from the house all the more unlikely. And there’s rugby.

So in the absence of any valentine flowers to Blip, I resort to the last remaining blooms on our Christmas cactus - our schlumbergera. Shrivelled and sad, nevertheless they make an interesting subject, and I guess, in their own way, they’re suitably ‘derelict’.

Meanwhile, I’ve ordered myself a tulip bouquet.......
