A Day In The Life

Just Ducky

We stocked up on bird and deer treats and gassed up the car this morning in anticipation of a stormy snowy week ahead. On our way home we visited The Boat Landing in hopes of a shot or two of the smelt camps lining the river. A man with a camera in his hand hollered over to ask if we were there to see the duck. What duck? He pointed to an area a short walk away saying “look for the odd duck”! • A well worn path in the snow led the way because we immediately found the infamous lone duck who didn’t look like all the rest. Not a mallard. Not a merganser. We were thrilled to see for the first time a Northern Pintail. It isn’t rare in Maine but it is uncommon. What a beauty! • The sunny start gave way to clouds during the afternoon and now we wait. Snow is expected to arrive overnight before changing over to sleet tomorrow morning. What a mess it will be. Hopefully Mr. Pintail will stay safe with the other dabbling ducks so we’ll get to see him again soon • Stay Well, Blip Friends!
