MacDuff Circle - Modern Art Gallery

Thoroughly enjoyed the University of York "Introduction to Modern Sculpture" course which I've just finished.  The course challenges perceptions - what counts as art, controversial works, "my two year old could do that" views.

This photo is taken in the grounds of the Modern Art Gallery.  Some might think its bricks leftover by the builders!  But no,  its Macduff Circle by Richard Long.   He is a Land Artist and is well known for his walks which challenge conventional notions of what art ought to be.  He studied at Bristol Art School and then went on to Saint Martin's School of Art to study sculpture.  He's the only artist to have been short listed for the Turner Prize four times (a competition which often raises eyebrows!). This link tells you a little about Macduff Circle.
