Sillito House, Blackford Hill

Today's walk took in some post war listed buildings on the south of the city.  There are about 60 buildings in Edinburgh erected after the Second World War which have been listed for their special architectural or historic interest.  This is Sillito House on Charterhall Road.  It is a 'modernist' house designed by Morris and Steedman in 1959.  They have gained international recognition for their rigorous application of Modern Movement principles, inspired by Marcel Breuer and Richard Neutra, but with a unique Scottish execution.  Here's a link to a lovely piece written by the Sillito family on how the house came about.
