Thomas Alexander, Military Surgeon - Prestonpans

I feel as though I spend a lot of time looking at the weather forecast!  We were picking up Mum and Dad from Prestonpans today for Dad's birthday lunch but a couple of inches of heavy snow was forecast.  Sleety showers emerged but no snow so we set off.

Thomas Alexander was born in Prestonpans in 1812 and was buried here after his death in 1860.  He joined the army and went on to become the Director General of the Medical Department of the British Army with postings all over the world.  In his long military career it's said "he laboured incessantly to eleviate the condition of  the troops".  In 1862 this monument in the Coronation Gardens of Preston Kirk was erected in his memory.

By the time we dropped Mum and Dad home it was blowing a hooley - Storm Eunice had arrived.
