Old College - University of Edinburgh

I put off yesterday's run hoping the weather might be better.  But it still felt fairly miserable today.  It was blustery on the return and the rain started just before I got home.  I popped into th Old College en route.  The foundation stone was laid in 1789 for a building of Robert Adam design.  Work slowed during the Napoleonic years as money funds dried up and by the time it restarted Adam had died.  William Henry Playfair was appointmented as architect in 1817 to continue the work.  Around 1830 the work was complete other than the dome which was added in 1887 almost 100 years after the foundation stone!

I did have to face the weather again in the afternoon as I had an appointment along at Gorgie.
