Smuggler's Cottage

It was closed but I could hear them in there, drinking rum and laughing about their dastardly exploits! Smuggler's Cottage dates back to the 15th century and was probably built as a ferrymans' home.

General Eisenhower stayed here in 1944 and waved the troops off for the D-Day landings at Omaha beach. The US flag continues to fly here in honour of those men.

After a quick look around we headed off to the Roseland Inn at Philleigh, where we had an excellent lunch.
