The Lozarithm Lens

Before... (Friday 19th February 2021)

A diary blip. Some solar panels have been removed from the loft roof prior to extensive work to repair timbers and re-felt and re-tile etc. It's not easy being green, as someone said once.

The good news is that the 30-year old worn-out and leaky polycarbonate roof that covers the conservatory and porch is to be replaced next week with a proper slate roof at last.

U-Roy - Small Axe (12") (1977)

So if you are the big tree, We are the small axe
Ready to cut you down,
To cut you down
U-Roy was probably the greatest Jamaican "toaster", as they were then called, and worked with all the greatest producers. This was recorded in Jamaica for Richard Branson's British Front Line label, with U-Roy toasting over a version of the Wailers' Small Axe, written by Bob Marley and originally produced by Lee "Scratch" Perry. Small Axe was also the name of an excellent series of five anthology films by the director Steve McQueen that I have been enjoying, so this seemed an ideal choice (available on iPlayer, incidentally).
