Life in Sunny Dubai

Saturday EB #2

It is nearly midnight here and I need to get to bed earlier than last night (which was nearly 3 am).

It was almost another at-home day. OaSis, then lunch, then the ironing(!!) and finally, a monthly bible study on Zoom with folk from my youth group days (from the 1980s)!!

The big thing today was to go to see the landlord's rep again to pay the rent. He was going to be in his office from 7:30 onwards, so we got there around 8. He had another tenant in the office - our neighbour from the flat above! Anyway, we chatted and tried to get him down to what we believe is a reasonable rent under the circumstances but he wouldn't budge. He did let us know that he does not want to lose us as tenants. He finally said - if we paid the entire years' rent in one go - he'll reduce it to what we're asking for. So typical. For years, landlords here demanded the full year's rent in one cheque at the start of each year. It has become more sensible over the last decade and right now, there are some even allowing twelve cheques. We have a couple of days to come up with a plan.

The bougainvillaea in my blip is the plant on my balcony. I got it a few weeks after the one I normally blip. It has had its ups and downs, nearly dying a few years ago. Recently, it's started flowering again. I'd forgotten which colours it had!
