The Red Red Robin

The Robin saved my day in blip terms as it was raining all morning and has been very cold, so I've staying in. This afternoon I had a good Zoom U3A psychology discussion, with today's topic being positive psychology.

Day 353 / Day 58 of Lockdown 3 (for my record only)
UK deaths up 242 to 124,025 (revised basis), with 6,573 new cases, 12,136 patients in hospital, 1,647 on ventilation and 757 new admissions. 21m have now received their first dose of the vaccine. Italy and the European Commission have blocked a shipment of 250,000 doses of the AZ vaccine to Australia due to failure to meet the EU's contract. Germany has changed its decision to not give the AZ vaccine to over 65s. The MHRA has agreed to fast-track existing approved vaccines that have been modified for new variants, providing robust evidence of a triggered immune response is provided (lengthy clinical studies not required). Very annoying news that in an ONS survey, over 40% of over-80s have broken lockdown regulations after getting a first jab and 48% had mixed indoors with people outside their household after getting both jabs. I can't believe that given how much younger people have had to sacrifice to protect older people, that they're being repaid in this way. Sky News are reporting seeing a confidential report saying that data from hundreds of millions of app check-ins by people visiting pubs, restaurants and hairdressers was barely used by T&T, and the app alert system was rarely triggered. I do think it's time for Dido Harding to go, so someone new can sort out T&T so it's fit for purpose for stamping on new cases in the Autumn.
