Tortworth Sweet Chestnut

The Sun came out, and who are we to deny the lure of the Sun? So, after I spent a bit of time this morning playing with candle smoke (see extra, quite nice but clearly trumped, if that's still a valid word), we walked over the Tortworth.

It's fun to see the sign by the gate that says "sponsored by National Grid". The sweet chestnut at Tortworth was thought to be 600 years old in 1800, and I'm pretty sure my old employer wasn't about then.

It's very hard to photograph this tree, as it's now spread so many tree-like offshoots across the field from the same rootstock it looks like a small woodland. Detail shots are easier, and this one shows the parish church of  St Leonards
