A view from Jeanneb

Moorland morning

It was glorious first thing but even though we were off for our walk quite early it did soon cloud over.

We walked along Hunters Hill and up onto the ‘moonscape’ of Castones moor above our neighbouring village of Cullingworth.
The fire a few years ago has left little greenery and the moss that has taken over is strangely orange. Didn’t see anyone on this part of our walk.

From there we crossed onto Harden Moor which we knew would be busier so we stuck to the paths along the lower edge. Didn’t meet many people, but could hear quite a bit of noise across on the main track where they fly model aeroplanes etc

Much of this moor was quarried in years gone by and some of the landscape still reflects that past but the thing I like most are these stone flagged paths which were used to pull the  carts of quarried stones along. You can see the groves created by many years of use.  I was surprised to see this as the main ones are to be seen further over where the moor opens up and flattens out.

We crossed from here to the stone circle which is thought to be Bronze Age in origin. A few years ago they put up wooden barriers which have no effect in stopping people, bikes or horses accessing them, I commented to Chris about what purpose they had and he struck the pose in the extra. Obviously just there for him to lean on!

Son Alex has been down to collect his bench. In return we are to take his defunct TV to the tip. It only broke down on Thursday night and he got a new one yesterday. He currently uses a works van (his car is in our drive) so if he goes to the tip with it in a van he will be charged. - Is this why we have so much trouble with fly tippers?

He will be back soon for his Sunday dinner.

Good to be out and about this morning.
