Spectacular Nature

Not having slept well and feeling generally lethargic I had a very slow morning. The wind was really blowing in the outside world, and we knew from yesterday just how chilly the windchill was. However, in the end the lovely sun, and the prospect of waves beating on the rocks drove us out, and to the north coast where we hoped for spectacular waves.
We were both amazed when we got here. The sea along the coast was full of ice, completely covered by bits ranging from floes a meter across to small lumps. As the waves pulsed in and out the whole mass of ice rose and fell. As the waves reached shore the lumps of ice crashed together and slid up the rocks, before being pulled back by the receding waves.  The noise of the ice-blocks crashing together and sliding around on the rocks, combined with the noise of the wind made it hard to speak to each other.
I'm not usually a nervous sort but I kept well back from the edge because I could see that slipping into that lot would be rapidly lethal. Underfoot was more ice and uneven rocks and the wind buffeted us continually. Every time we used our cameras our hands froze. We were torn between wanting to watch one more big set of waves, and wanting to run away to somewhere warm! Eventually, after about 30 minutes we headed off back up the path to the car.
Neither of us had seen anything like that before. Sometimes you just get lucky and end up in the right place at the right time.
I just backblipped yesterday's picture, of newly baked honey crispbread.
