TINY TUESDAY

What a joy to go out into the garden this morning in the sunshine, with just a slight breeze and to wander around looking at all the new growth.  This is the season of hope!

Of course, I took lots of photographs, bearing in mind it is Tiny Tuesday, but there is no actual theme.  The Blue Angel clematis that I pruned hard last week now has some tiny buds and I am hopeful that we will have a good show of flowers later.  The various rose bushes, some of which have been pruned, are looking good, but my rambling rose, Paul’s Scarlet is looking a bit sad - however, I hope that a good prune will shock it into growth again.

The miniature irises are also doing very well.  The colours are amazing and they certainly brightened up my day today.

Mr. HCB’s mother’s snowdrops are still going strong and have opened up more, so that I could see the inside of the tiny flowers - they are so beautiful and we are really thrilled they have carried on flowering for well over twenty years.

I even took several shots of the tiny daisies growing in our lawn - which is never weed-free but the daisies have struggled through the winter and are still very pretty.  In fact, this year, Mr. HCB has said he isn’t going to cut the grass but just go round the outside and make a grass path that is about a foot wide, so that we can easily get to the border to hoe and weed it.  The rest is going to be left as a wildlife haven for bees, butterflies and other insects, so we will be doing our bit for the environment.

Then I came to the raised beds that look as if they are overrun with grass and weeds - but that isn’t so.  In fact, these are the beds that Mr. HCB planted with wild flowers, which have died off during the winter, so we will be waiting, once again, to see what they produce.

However, there were a few little plants that Mr. HCB wasn’t pleased to see and those were the seedlings of the sycamore trees that are outside our fence.  He says there are hundreds around the garden, so whenever he sees one of these, they do get pulled out - after all, with three large sycamore trees outside the fence, why would we want many more inside?  I did think, however, that it would be good to give this little seedling its few minutes of fame on Blip, so here it is for Tiny Tuesday.

When we got home yesterday, after Mr. HCB had had his Covid test, which he said wasn’t that pleasant, we found a Notice on the door - see extra - put there by our lovely neighbour, Lynn.  It made us both laugh, but Mr. HCB wondered if she had jinxed his chrysanthemums in the greenhouse, because when he went out there a bit later, he found they had lots of greenfly on them, so he had to deal with that.

He’s beginning to realise that he won’t be able to do that much for a while after his cataract operation on Thursday, so is spending a lot of time out there today and is ticking a lot of jobs off his long list, which is good.
