an alien in the woods....

The cloud certainly returned today and there was no sign of the sun but at least it wasn't too cold. As I walked this morning I noticed this emerging bud from, I think, an elder which has been encouraged to open by the warmer weather. I hope it is not too early! The bud is a warm wine red and I liked the way the serrated leaves were gently uncurling from around the bubbly interior which looks not unlike a miniature ornamental cabbage. If anyone recognises it as something other than an elder please let me know!
