Tractor Tuesday #3 . For First Husband in Waiting

Corona again stopping me being out when Tractors are doing their thing and indeed they have been very busy.....until Monday.

I happened to be in the local "Raiffeisenmarkt". I can't think of anything comparable in the UK. The "Raiffeisen" organisation is a huge concern mainly in German speaking countries but also Italy and Poland consisting of 330,000 businesses. Born out of the Co-operative idea of 19th century mainly to help farmers and rural people.

It's  not a supermarket but has lots of "rural" household products so you will find eggs and potatoes, jams but spades & forks, gardening equipment, brushes, fertiliser for garden but also field. Seeds for garden and field, beer, wine and drinks of course, electric horse fencing, sacks of feed for every conceivable animal, welly boots, overalls, outdoor jackets and of course for the children.....appropriate toys.

In summary a paradise for people like our Tractor Tuesday's President's other half, MrTBay. Beer, wine and tractor & farm equipment models.

On a rural agricultural point, and thinking about MrsTBay's journal which the other day had a post of a family meal with table decoration, we have a very popular TV series in several  of the German more rural States called "Landfrauenküche" - "Rural Ladies Kitchen", based around a cooking competition but more of the series is concerned with the agricultural side. Bavarian TV does a series each year with competitors from each of the 7 Bavarian regions who are all farming wives, the farm almost always with 3 generations of the family, and they are expected to produce a regional 3-course dinner for the others using at least one of the products they produce on their farm.

This week Bavarian TV showed one from a national German competition involving four farming wives - beef, pork, hops and cereal/legumes farms from north, middle and 2x southern Germany. The episode was the cereal/legumes farm not far from us close to Lake Constance. Simply lovely. Even if you don't understand German you might like to see the 45 min show. It's fascinating how the lady who has a personal tick for lupin seeds can put together a 3 course meal that is almost totally from lupins, and that includes the coffee. PS the ladies husband is an Irishman.
