Stone

In the middle of the countryside sits the little town in which I live. You don't have to walk far in any direction to be walking on grass or, most of the year, ankle deep in mud.

And it was precisely to escape the mud and the dirt that people laid down these stone streets and it was to protect themselves from the wind and the rain and the cold that they built these stone houses.

Sometimes it feels like we live in a stone ship, impossibly floating on this sea of mud. But I prefer the stone to tarmac and breeze blocks.
