Life's Little Moments

Up Close

Oh, how I love my hide!  Sitting snug inside this afternoon while a beautifully plumed male cardinal chomped on seeds a mere 7 feet away.  This is one of two cardinals who have not yet fully molted into their bright red adult plumage.  Not sure why they are so late, but this one is definitely showing more and more red now.  If you look closely you can see some of the fine detail on his new feathers.

I've been house-bound today waiting on delivery of the replacement phone.  Of course, Fed Ex won't commit to a time slot for delivery, so that means hanging out all day since a signature is required.  Fortunately, the weather was ideal for sitting in the hide for awhile while Hubs was in the office.

Took advantage of an at-home day to catch up with bestie Peg on the phone.  She has a big birthday coming up next week which will be celebrated very quietly since she and her husband have only yet gotten their first vax.  But next month, we will have a proper celebration with all the besties.

In addition to the blackbirds singing in the yard, there were a good number of robins pulling things out of the lawn and back in the woods flipping over leaves looking for tasty crawly things.  A couple of days ago I saw a Crow with a beak full of grass - a sign that nesting is getting underway.  The crows are always very secretive about their nests so I've no idea where it might be.  But maybe we'll be treated to young crows in a few months.  So many signs of spring around, even while we still have large patches of snow on the ground.

Hubs and I started watching The Queen's Gambit on Netflix last night.  I really enjoyed it; he is reserving judgement until we watch the second episode.  It's only 7 episodes, so I think he can suffer through even if he doesn't love it.

Second pick of today can be seen HERE on Flickr - a slightly alarmed male nuthatch.

Remember to keep yourself and those you love safe.  Be kind.  And today's chocolate recommend is dark with orange essence.
