A Touch of Autumn

A South-West change swept up the South Island last night. It was raining as we drove from the ferry terminal in Picton and home to Blenheim. But by the time we got home the roads were pretty well dry. That was very disappointing as I had hoped for a little more rain to at least dry the dust.
The dogs enjoyed our walk in cooler conditions this morning. There were even some nice clouds to make the sky more interesting. However I sense a touch of Autumn in the air. The willows are just starting to show a change in colour.
Yet another district in the North Island is about to formally declare a drought in their area. I do hope Marlborough does not need to follow their lead..
I phoned the Department of Conservation this morning in the hope the road through the famous Molesworth Station (a high country station) would still be open into April.
The Camera Club were hoping to organise an "Overnight" trip through that wonderful High Country, returning via The Rainbow Station Route. (Four wheel drive vehicle only through the Rainbow).
But alas, the Molesworth Road will be closed to the public on the 10th of this month due to extreme high fire risk.
Fingers crossed for a good rain... Then the Molesworth Road may be opened for a short while longer. Please let it rain, let it rain....
