Viaduct Basin

We spent most of today on the quays and harbour area of Auckland, after Chris had found a barber and got himself a well needed haircut!

There are the public wharves with ferry boats to various islands and then the marinas with all sorts of exotic and no doubt obscenely expensive craft.

There is a Maritime Museum and the America's Cup facilities, beyond is the regenerated Wynyard Wharf with restaurants and Art works occupying the old North wharf. From here there is a good view to the Harbour Bridge which dissects the city at this point and of course you can climb it and Bungy jump from it!

Here Kiwis take their sailing seriously - I was particularly taken with this boat with it's black hull. It has such a shine that the sparkling water is reflecting off the prow and the inflatable alongside is mirrored perfectly. If you look closely there is a guy slightly lower in the inflatable in a dark t-shirt polishing the paintwork!
